IEEE VR 2026 took place in Daegu, South Korea, from 21 to 25 March 2026. As the world’s leading research conference on virtual, augmented and mixed reality, it brought together top international researchers to present peer-reviewed scientific breakthroughs for the XR technologies of the coming decade.
Danny Schott, Florian Heinrich and Fabian Joeres were involved in organising the 4th workshop on ‘XR Technologies for Medicine and Healthcare’, which addressed the latest developments in the field of extended reality within the medical sector.
Florian Heinrich, Sebastian Weiss, Josephine Schreiter (represented by Fabian Joeres) and Aqsa Sabir presented their workshop papers on topics such as projection-based augmented reality, stress resilience through VR training, AI-supported learning systems, and AR visualisations for robot-assisted ultrasound.
Danny Schott together with Claudia Schrader (University of Wuppertal) presented their paper on the impact of realism in virtual environments on presence, motivation, cognitive load and learning outcomes.
For many members of our group, this was their first major conference, and the experience offered valuable opportunities that went beyond the scientific programme. The chance to experience Korean culture and hospitality made the trip an unforgettable experience on both a professional and personal level. We would like to thank the organisers of IEEE VR 2026 for hosting such a well-organised and inspiring conference, and we are already looking forward to presenting further results of our ongoing research at the next edition.
