The Virtual and Augmented Reality group (formerly CAS group) was founded by the Faculty of Computer Science in July 2019 and is led by Christian Hansen. The group is part of the research campus STIMULATE, a research center in the field of image guided local therapies.

Our research is focused on Medical Virtual/Augmented Reality, Human-Computer Interaction, and Medical Image Processing. We offer lectures and seminars in the bachelor and master programs of Computer Science, Computational Visualistics, and Medical Systems Engineering.

The VAR group cooperates with its partners within in the STIMULATE network, especially with the University Hospital Magdeburg, the Hannover Medical School, the University Medical Center of the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, Fraunhofer MEVIS in Bremen, the ARTORG Center in Bern, the Visualization and Explorative Data Analysis Group at the University of Jena, and the Games Institute at the University of Waterloo.
